Bridging Industry & Agriculture; Technology & Craft.

HISTORY

Canflax was founded in 2023 with the mission of bringing the fiber flax industry to Quebec. As President and partner at Eliza Faulkner, Arin saw that the future in textiles would be natural, sustainable, and traceable.

  • Our purpose is to provide the first farm-to-closet linen collection in North America, and provide Eliza Faulkner with the first truly natural, sustainable, and traceable textile on the continent.

But big things start small. And no one in North America has either the seeds, equipment, or expertise necessary. The first step to develop the industry in Quebec has evolved: we are providing parallelized harvesting services, high quality seeds, and brokerage, with the goal of opening the first scutching mill in Quebec in 2027/28.

Canflax is engaging in R&D, and split-risk partnerships with Quebec farmers, with the goal of scaling up production to produce 1200ha of fiber flax by 2027.

SUSTAINABILITY

Canflax was founded with the mission of creating sustainable and durable goods to combat and adapt to climate change.

  • Our goal is to be carbon-negative, sequestering atmospheric carbon into durable, biodegradable products that can be returned to the soil.

Flax is the most sustainable textile on the planet, sequestering 3.5 tons of CO2 per hectare harvested into a biodegradable product. Producing 2m² of linen fabric requires only 4.5kg of carbon, the lowest among all textiles .

In summary, flax not only has the lowest carbon footprint, but also sequesters the most carbon, with no negative externalities such as plastic shedding or pollutants.

  • Flax Uses 13 times less water than cotton. This means most frequently it does not require irrigation, and can grow on rain water.

In partnership with Testex, Canflax will achieve Oeko-Tex certification adhering to the highest environmental standards in the industry and setting future benchmarks.

  • As part of the Fibershed movement, Canflax is committed to creating regenerative agricultural practices within the fibre farming community. Fibersheds provide a stamp of approval on sustainable agricultural practices, including watershed respect, biodiversity promotion and organic farming - all aimed at developing new regenerative and restorative agriculture practices for others to follow.
